Matisian History

Matisian History

The Matis seek to rebuild their lost empire, but their own intrigues usually consume all their energy as each family vies for the crown. The Matis used to command an emense empire spaning many lands. Matisians used to control large areas through commerce and raw material resource holdings. Then the adaucious Trykers stole their main water buyers, the Fyros, and the other civilisations turned their backs on their Matisian lords who had been good to them, stealing land and generally forgetting the benefits that they had once enjoyed. The empire has little by little become like an elaborate, perfectly ordered garden, missing pieces; but today the youngest Matis turn away from the colossal task despite its impressiveness. Without immortality, time has become precious. For this, certain Matis have tried to forcefully enjoin other peoples to help them; other Matis have learned to extend their lives artificially in order to see the masterpiece completed.

Matis have historically been closer to the Karavan. Distrusting the Kamis beings.

Matisian legend: The Matis armed with their science and their aura overthrew the decadent and disorganized empire of the Trykers by arming the Fyros. Then they created their own empire that spanned the Bark of Atys. The Zoraïs were exiled to the territories victimized by Goo, in order to remind them of their fault and oblige them to combat it. The Fyros had to stop burning Atys and find another means to combat the plague. Finally, the Trykers were captured and reeducated. The Matisian Empire prospered. The Matisian Empire experienced tremendous dissension at the death of its heroes. The emperors have not always been up to the task given by the Great Mentor.

The Matis cannot stand the Zoraïs. They wonder about their ongoing state of existence: are they still corrupt? The longer the Zoraïs meditate and live among the Goo, the more they must degenerate. But they are especially dangerous because the Kamis have come to commune with them more and more, and it is intolerable to the Matis that a cursed people should be loved by Kamis.
